Beef Bulalo Recipe

You know when people said, “Come at me, 2022.” or “I’m ready for you, 2022.”, and 2022 really came at almost everyone by challenging a lot of people? The start of 2022 was really something, to say the least. Many people got sick; cough and colds were going around and everyone just seem to be on their bed, really taken down by 2022 by just the first week. But hey, guess what… we made it still. We are all still here and this time we know better than to challenge this new year. Kidding!

As that is the case, what we have for you today is something that is just perfect to keep you warm and healthy. Beef Bulalo is a hearty soup dish that is a favorite of many. This classic Filipino dish is one of the many reasons people travel to Tagaytay. If you haven’t heard of Tagaytay, then where have you been all your life? Kidding again! Tagaytay is a popular tourist spot here in the Philippines and it is known for its cold temperature so it’s no surprise that Beef Bulalo is big there. But then again, you need not to travel to Tagaytay (or anywhere for that matter) just to have Beef Bulalo especially during times like this when you could easily catch the virus. With that, here we are sharing our Beef Bulalo recipe which you could simply recreate in your very own kitchen.

Bulalo, by the way, is a beef dish that is undeniably easy to love. With beef shanks and bone marrow, alongside some leafy vegetables and corn, all swimming in a bowl of homey, hearty, and delicious broth, what’s not to love about Bulalo, right? Being this is a soup dish, this really goes well with rice during a cold weather. Although, you could actually have it whenever you like, regardless if you are feeling cold or not. Plus, this one could make anyone feel better, especially when they are not feeling their best; so what else are you waiting for? Prep the ingredients needed and start making Beef Bulalo!

Ingredients fror Tenderizing the Beef:
 1 ⅕ kg beef shank
 2 onions
 1 tsp salt
 1 tbsp pepper corn
 2 l water
Ingredients for Cooking Bulalo:
 1 ⅕ kg beef shank
 2 bone marrow
 1 cabbage
 1 Chinese pechay
 3 stalks of scallion
 2 tbsp fish sauce
 2 corn cobs

Directions:

Place beef shanks in a pot. Add whole black pepper, salt, onion, and water. Bring it to a boil.

After 8 to 10 minutes, skim the scum off. Cover it again with a lid and then let it simmer for 2 to 3 hours or until the beef shanks are tender.

Slice the scallion, cabbage, chinese pechay, and corn. Set aside.

Once the beef shanks are tender, add fish sauce and corn. Let it simmer for a while.

Then add cabbage, Chinese pechay, and scallions. Let it simmer for a while again.

Once ready, put them in a bowl and serve. Enjoy!
