Cafe’ Sanso: When Art, Coffee and Food Intertwined into a Beautiful Story

Tucked in the quiet and inner part of San Juan and away from the hustling and bustling of the city is the quaint Cafe’ Sanso.  Named after the renowned Spanish artist Juvenal Sanso from Catalonia Spain whose family moved in the Philippines when he was just four years old.   He’s also one of the best loved and highly regarded modernists in Philippine art.  His art speaks of his evolution as an artist and of his life during interesting times.

What started as a Spanish dishes inspired cafe’ is now a haven for International comfort food.  With the culinary expertise of JB Calungcaguin this small cafe’ in the heart of San Juan City is truly worth travelling the miles for.

Jamon Serrano Melon and Mango Saladperfectly tossed mesclun medley in citrus balsamic vinaigrette. Topped with Jamon Serrano, mango, melon and manchego cheese slivers.

Who says salad is boring?  Because it’s definitely not if you try this Jamon Serrano Melon and Mango Salad of Cafe’ Sanso. The cheese, mango and Jamon Serrano alone could already make your mouth water.

Tartuffo LinguiniLinguini coated in truffle infused cream sauce. Topped with Jamon Serrano and parmesan slivers.

Pasta lover or not, we’re sure that you will instantly fall in love with this dish. The smell of the truffle alone can make you hungry.

Café’ Sanso CubanosSourdough battard bread stuffed with pulled pork, smoked ham, beef salami and three kinds of cheese. Served with seasoned potato wedges.

Been a big fan of pulled pork for the longest time and their version of Cubanos made me love this dish even more.

Pollo RostizadoRoast Chicken in garlic gravy. Served with garlic gravy and roasted garlic and pepper gremolata.

This drool-worthy dish is worth gaining those extra calories for. Juicy and flavorful chicken that you can’t stop munching until it’s gone.

Churrasco Pork BellyServed with sautéed haricot verts and rosemary infused marbled potatoes.

Now this sinful  and appetizing dish is simply off the charts with its crunchiness and deliciousness in every bite.

Francesinhalayers of Jamon Serrano, chipolata sausage, sautéed wild mushrooms on sourdough bread. With chive cream cheese and melted mozzarella, and asiago cheese on top. Served with seasoned fries and spiced beer tomato sauce.

This sandwich has been an instant best seller for the Cafe’ and we truly understand why. It’s undeniably cheesy and very delectable. It will really keep you munching until it’s gone, until you crave for more.
