Bistek Tagalog is actually Filipino beef stew. The word Bistek itself came from Beef Steak. We have talked all about it on our previous Pork Chop Bistek Recipe, if you guys remember. Anyway, Bistek may have originally been made of beef, but surely, Filipinos being Filipinos, we love trying out alternative proteins not only to switch it up, but also to know that there other possible options when beef is not accessible and we want some Bistek goodness to indulge in still. That said, for today, what we got for you is none other than Chicken Bistek!

We are assuring you as early as now that Chicken Bistek has all the mouthwatering flavors a classic Bistek has. However, this version of bistek is undeniably quicker to make and honestly, more budget-friendly since we all know how much a kilo of beef is compared to chicken here in the Metro, right? As that is the case, those are actually more reasons for you to love Chicken Bistek even more!

Moist, tender, and tasty, Chicken Bistek definitely goes well with steamed rice so you are sure that you and your loved ones will leave the table satisfied and happy. This dish is oozing with flavor as the chicken is actually marinated in usually a mixture of soy sauce, calamansi, and pepper; then the chicken will be cooked in that same marinade, and then garnished with onion rings that are a delight to bite together with some green onions.

Ingredients:
Ingredients for the Marinade:
 ½ cup soy sauce
 4 chicken thighs
 4 chicken legs
 ½ tsp ground black pepper
 ½ tsp salt
 2 tbsp brown sugar
 6 garlic cloves
 2 large white onions
 2 green onion stalks
 20 calamansi
Ingredients for Cooking Chicken Bistek:
 6 garlic cloves
 ½ cup water

Directions:
Directions for Marinating the Chicken:

Marinate chicken with soy sauce, calamansi juice, garlic, ground black pepper, and brown sugar. Marinate for 15 to 20 minutes.

*Make sure that each chicken piece is coated and marinated well.

Directions for Cooking Chicken Bistek:

Chop garlic cloves and green onion stalks, then slice white onions into rings, and then squeeze out the juice of calamansi. Set them aside.

Stir fry onions until wilted. Set them aside.

Fry chicken until lightly browned. Set them aside.

Saute garlic, then add chicken.

Add the marinade, then add water and salt.

Bring to a boil then lower heat.

Cook for 20 to 30 minutes or until chicken is tender and cooked through.

Garnish with sliced onion rings and chopped green onions.

Transfer to a serving dish and then serve. Enjoy!
