Caldereta is one of the many top tier Filipino food that we just can’t help ourselves with when it is served in front of us! Beef cuts simmered to mouth-watering tenderness in tomato sauce that has the right hint of spice, alongside sliced pieces of potatoes, carrots, bell peppers, and sometimes even green olives – this classic Filipino stew is great for family meals and even special occasions as this one sure is tasty, hearty, and an awesome dish to bond over with!
As Caldereta has a tinge of spice, depending on your preferred level, this dish really is a great pairing to every Pinoy’s first love, too, and that is none other than rice! Indeed, this one is not only a great viand because of the punch it gives in every mouthful, but also because the tenderness of the beef really gives off a wonderful bite as well as an almost-melt-in-your-mouth adventure!
There is no denying that Caldereta has been known as a beef dish and cooking it is no joke as it is tedious — requires a lot of time, effort, and of course patience — even though you have a pressure cooker to quicken the tendering of the meat. With that in mind, we wanted to experiment and play around Caldereta for a change!

And so, we went for something that is totally different from beef and that is shrimp! Shrimps are commonly used in Sinigang, too, which is another classic Pinoy dish, but we have never seen it as a main ingredient in Caldereta and we just could not sleep unless we get to try it out, so tada (!), we made our version of Shrimp Caldereta and we are sharing it with you guys!
Surely, it gave us a different experience as its taste and texture is absolutely far different from beef, but we completely loved every bit of it still, especially because we used Mama Sita’s Caldereta Mix.
Mama Sita’s Caldereta Mix will undeniably level up your Caldereta game as it is a mixture of not only western, but also oriental spices that are of the right proportions, giving your Caldereta and in this case, our Shrimp Caldereta, the ultimate Caldereta taste we fall deeper in love with every time we take a mouthful.
Watch our video about it to find out how we cooked it and how Mama Sita’s Caldereta Mix made this dish even more delicious. Do tell us what you think about it, too!
