Escabecheng Tilapia Recipe

Most Filipino households are of big families. It is not unusual for Filipinos to be living not only with their immediate family members, but also with their extended family members, meaning their grandparents, aunts, and uncles. As that is the case, Filipinos are used to sharing the food they have with everyone or at least try their best for everyone’s plate to have something.

Tilapia is one of those go-to fish by Filipinos when they want to have fish as their meal. However, it is no secret that one Tilapia, especially if it is of average size cannot make a family of more than three full. With that, food options like fish is often cooked with veggies and other ingredients or in soup or sauce so as for everyone to have something to eat.

Wondering how to make a fish dish, especially a Tilapia, good for a family of three or more? Well, we suggest cooking the Tilapia as an Escabeche. A number of dishes in Spanish, Portuguese, and even Latin American cuisines are called Escabeche and these ones have either marinated fish or meat for protein, and then cooked in an acidic sauce that is often of set and sour tastes.

Meanwhile, in the Philippines, Escabeche is a dish typically made with fish or meat that is marinated and cooked in vinegar and some spices too — which is what our Tilapia Escabeche is all about. With the Tilapia being our main star, we then added some green and red bell peppers as well as some carrots with it too. Of course, we also did ours with a sweet × spicy kind of sauce because would this really be Escabeche without it? We don’t think so.
