That said, today we have prepared for you a vegetable dish popular among Filipino households—the tasty and homey Ginisang Sayote. Chayote, locally known as Sayote, as part of the gourd family is technically a fruit, but is prepared and eaten like a vegetable; that’s why we’re sticking to saying we have a vegetable dish for you! There are a lot of ways to enjoy Sayote—it can be by making a soup out of or with it, or even having it stir-fried which is what Ginisang Sayote is all about.

Ginisang Sayote is a well-loved vegetable dish here in the Philippines not only because it is quick and easy to make, but also because it is nutritious, delicious, and economical. Often times, Ginisang Sayote is made with of course, sayote, alongside other vegetables like carrots and tomatoes, together with protein which is usually of ground pork; in our case, ground pork and shrimp. Saute all that together, and you surely will end up with a lovely and yummy serving of Ginisang Sayote ready to be eaten up to its last bit. Ingredients:
 300 g ground beef
 ¼ kg shrimp
 1 kg sayote
 50 mg oyster sauce
 1 carrot
 3 tomatoes
 1 onion
 1 tsp salt
 ½ tsp pepper
 6 garlic cloves
 1 cup water

Directions:

Slice garlic, onion, tomatoes, carrots, and sayote. Set aside.

Peel. devein, and slice the shrimp.

Make shrimp stock by placing shrimp heads in a bowl, adding hot water onto it and then pressing the shrimp heads with a spoon to extract flavor.

Saute garlic, onion, and tomatoes.

Add ground pork.

Once ground pork is brown, add shrimp.

Add carrots. Mix.

Add sayote. Mix.

Add salt and ground black pepper. Mix again.

Add oyster sauce. Mix.

Add shrimp stock. Mix.

Add water. Mix, and then let it simmer for 8 to 10 minutes.

After 8 to 10 minutes of simmering, remove lid and then mix again.

Transfer Ginisang Sayote to a serving dish and serve. Enjoy!
