Today’s dish will definitely have you waking up, not once but twice! Kidding! Today’s dish is actually Gising Gising and if we are to translate that in Filipino Tagalog, it is actually “Wake Up, Wake Up”. Now do you get our joke?
Anyway, Gising Gising is also known as Ginataang Sigarilyas (we used string beans as substitute) and by now you probably know we have an immense love for Ginataang dishes, right? Seriously, we even have a number of Ginataan recipes ready for you to try your hand in already. Just check out our Ginataang Kalabasa at Sitaw with Bagnet, Ginataang Alimango, as well as Ginataang Tilapia recipes. If those don’t prove how much we are fans of Ginataan dishes, then we don’t know what will!

As we have noticed our Ginataan recipes usually have proteins as their main ingredient, we have decided to make one using mainly vegetables, hence the Gising Gising recipe we have prepared for you today. Traditionally made with chopped winged beans also known as sigarilyas together with coconut spiced milk, chilis, garlic, onions, and shrimp paste, Gising Gising is certainly a dish packed with nutrients, flavor, and punch!

Other than winged beans, Baguio beans or string beans can also be used as an alternative. If this is what you prefer, do know that you will still get to enjoy that milky at the same time fiery goodness of Gising Gising while also delighting in that fresh crunch of Baguio beans or string beans. Besides the coconutty yumminess, the crunch of the veggies is also one of the many reasons why we always look forward to having this dish!

Indeed, Gising Gising deserves to be part of our meal rotations so don’t be surprised if you ever get to dine with us and we have Gising Gising on our table. It’s a lovely and comforting dish after all!
With that, are you ready to have a blast because of a healthy and filling meal time with Gising Gising? Well, don’t just stand there, make sure you have all the ingredients ready already and start chopping and cooking so you will soon be munching and eating in no time.
