Last April 13th, we attended a Cheese Tasting Event at Edsa-Shang rila Hotel and had a great time trying different types of delicious cheeses.
It was an event by The California Milk Advisory Board (CMAB), which represents California’s more than 1300 dairy farm families, recently held a tasting event to showcase the wide variety of soft and soft ripened, semi-hard, hard, and Hispanic-style cheeses from the state.
Joe Baird, CMAB cheese expert and consultant for respected dairy organizations in America, discussed how California cheeses make dishes more flavorful. “California cheeses are packed with natural flavors that make your dish a standout. Smoked cheeses give your taste buds a nice kick when incorporated in salads or sandwiches besides giving off an enticing aroma that whets your appetite. Meanwhile, aged cheeses tend to have a sharper taste, which is good for soups. They also have a longer shelf life so they can be stored for a while,” Baird said.
Besides cheeses, the CMAB offers dairy products such as ice cream, milk, yogurt, and yogurt drinks. “If you’re looking for milk, cheese, or other dairy items in the supermarkets, look for the Real California Milk seal. These products are packed with flavor because they are produced by well-fed cows from family farms in California,” said Reji Retugal-Onal, CMAB Country Representative. “Major supermarkets are already carrying a variety of cheeses and we will be introducing more products such as yogurt and yogurt drinks and new ice cream flavors, which will be available in later this year.”
California dairy products are available in leading supermarkets such as S&R, Robinsons Supermarket, and SM.
ABOUT CALIFORNIA CHEESE
California Cheese is made exclusively from California milk produced by happy cows. The climate of California and the specialized care given by farmers to its cows allow their milk to attain its premium quality.
California is the largest farming state and leading milk producer in the U.S. Of all the state’s milk and milk product categories, California Cheese is the largest and fastest growing category. California has been producing cheese for as long as it has been making wine – more than 200 years.
The California Milk Advisory Board (CMAB), an instrumentality of the California Department of Food and Agriculture, is funded by the state’s 1300 dairy families. With headquarters in Tracy, the CMAB is the largest agricultural marketing organizations in the United States. The CMAB executes advertising, public relations, research and retail and foodservice promotional programs on behalf of California dairy products, including Real California Milk and Real California Cheese.
