Kinamatisan Baka Recipe

We have actually been listing down a number of soup dishes that we are sure you are not only going to enjoy, but will also keep you warm, of course. We know how comforting it is to sip on something warm on a rather cold or rainy evening, so what we have for you today is a dish that will give you exactly that.

Kinamatisan Baka

Kinamatisan dishes is one of our favorite Filipino viands. Why? Well, for one thing we love how it is a soup bursting with flavors like no other since tomatoes have that distinct yet delectable sweet and sour taste to it. We have given you two Kinamatisann dishes, if you could recall. One is Kinamatisan Manok and the other is Kinamatisan Baboy.

Kinamatisan Baka

As we have already given you two Kinamatisan dishes starring two of our go-to proteins, let us just cut to the chase and talk about the one we are going to share with you today—Kinamatisan Baka. Beef is considered a pricey protein here in Manila but worry not because our Kinamatisan Baka will not have you bankrupt, we promise you. In fact, you will find that our Kinamatisan Baka is a sulit deal, so to say.

Kinamatisan Baka

Said to be a commom dish in Northern part of Luzon, Kinamatisan Baka is basically a beef and tomato based dish. Other than beef and tomatoes, our Kinamatisan Baka also includes bokchoy, garlic, onions, and of course, salt and pepper to taste, and fish sauce for added flavor. Hence, we are a more than a hundred percent sure that our Kinamatisan Baka recipe will be a hit on your dining table as much as it has always been in ours!

Kinamatisan Baka

As that is the case, you better be ready to be wrapped in delicious warmth and comfort in every spoonful when you follow our Kinamatisan Baka recipe and not only get a taste of it, but actually get a fill of it, so load up on some tomatoes and beef and start cooking. Have fun!

Ingredients:
 1 kg beef
For Tenderizing the Beef:
 1 onion
 ½ tsp peppercorn
 2 laurel leaves
 3 star anise
For Cooking the Kinamatisang Baka:
 6 garlic cloves
 1 onion
 14 tomatoes
 3 stalks of bokchoy
 ½ tbsp salt
 2 tbsp fish sauce
 ¼ tsp ground black pepper

Directions for Tenderizing the Beef:

Slice the beef, then place it in a pot.

Add laurel leaves, star anise, peppercorns, onion, and water. Bring it to a boil.

Once it boils, lower the heat and let it cook for 1.5 to 2 hours or until meat is tender.

*Prepare other ingredients to be used in this dish while waiting for the meat to be tender (Check "Directions for Cooking Kinamatisang Baka" section).

When the meat is finally tender, separate the beef from the stock. Set aside both the beef and the stock for later.

Directions for Cooking Kinamatisang Baka:

Slice garlic, onions, tomatoes, and bok choy. Set them aside.

*Check if meat is already tender.

Saute garlic, onion, tomatoes, and beef.

Add salt and ground black pepper. Mix.

Add beef stock. Cover it with a lid and let it simmer for a while.

Add fish sauce. Mix.

Add bok choy. Cover it with a lid and let it simmer for a while again.

Transfer to a serving dish or bowl. Serve and enjoy!
