Tired of countless and repetitive fastfood here in the Metro? Do you find yourself wishing for traditional Filipino food from the province that can be easily accessed here in Manila? In these cold days and bed weather, we’re most likely to crave for food that will warm and fill our tummies. Bulacan Lugaw Kitchen’s (BLK) menu is sure to satisfy these cravings with just one ride to SM Mall of Asia. It is located inside MOA’s Taste Asia where you can find variety of food in just one stop.
BLK’s food is an original of Edison’s LTB (Lugaw Tokwa Baboy) from San Rafael, Bulacan. It is a well-known carenderia-style Lugawan that was established for over 20 years already. With the efforts of a young entrepreneur, who ventured into food from real estate, Edison’s LTB was rebranded to Bulacan Lugaw Kitchen to serve wonders to the people of the modern age. This food stall is a new baby which has just started in SM MOA on the 4th of August, 2017 which was then followed by their branch in SM Baliuag. The owner envisions his baby to be like the tapa of Tapa King but in this case, his specialty is lugaw or be a like a fastfood chain without compromising the taste of Bulacan in their lugaw.
This new Lugawan in the block is not just your ordinary lugawan. It has elevated its menu to other Filipino favorites such as Crispy Pata, Sisig, and Lumpia which are all Bulacan recipes so you can be sure that it will suit the taste of every Filipino missing the taste of home. The ingredients are delivered fresh from Bulacan.
On our weekend visit to BLK SM MOA branch, we got to try some of their specialties.
- Lugaw Tokwa’t Baboy
This is their specialty amongst all their specialties. According to the owner, this well-known lugaw is made special with pig’s brain broth and crispy tokwa’t baboy which makes it really savory and tasty. Aside from the Bulacan-famous Lugaw Tokwa’t Baboy, their lugaw can also be served in different variants such as Plain Lugaw, Lugaw with Egg, Lugaw with Tokwa, and Lugaw with Baboy.
- Sisig
Sisig is an all-time food for every Filipino. It can serve as pulutan for drinks and is also a perfect pair with rice. With every bite of their sisig, you can taste the crisp of the pork in a mixture of sweet, sour, and spicy flavor. A single serving can push your rice capacity at its max because it is so savory that you can’t get enough of it.
- Lumpiang Togue
This Lumpiang Togue is perfect for meryenda after a day’s work or if you just want a short break in the middle of the day. It is eaten best when dipped with the special suka fresh from Bulacan. It is so filling that you’ll just need a serving or two to be satisfied. It is just a bonus that there’s not much carbs in it since it’s all vegetables so it’s also perfect for health-conscious people.
- Dinuguan
We all know that it is a hassle to find home-cooked food in the middle of the city. And it is more difficult to find time on workdays to cook your cravings, especially when you’re craving for Dinuguan. Cooking this food takes a lot of time in preparation because of the ingredients. So it’s really nice and convenient that you can easily find it in Bulacan Lugaw Kitchen. You get to eat a home quality Dinuguan that is sure to be safe and tastes so good. You get to choose if you’ll pair it with yummy puto or a cup of rice.
- Crispy Pata – hindi maamoy
The saying “Masarap and bawal” summarizes my experience with this food. You’ll get a taste of heaven in every bite of this crunchy savory goodness. Well, just a little warning since cholesterol is not really good for the health, you must be prepared and have self-control because when you start eating this, you’re sure to ask for more!
If you are looking for other Filipino meals that are perfect for lunch or dinner, Bulacan Lugaw Kitchen’s rice meals will definitely not fail you. They offer all-time Filipino favorites such as Crispy Pork Binagoongan, Chicken and Pork Adobo, Menudo, Paksiw na Pata, and Bistek Tagalog.
Among all their rice meals, I was drawn most to Crispy Pork Binagoongan. I was surprised that the bagoong and pork are not cooked mixed like the typical Binagoongan that I have tried. Since the bagoong and pork are separated, you’ll get to experiment according to your preference on how much bagoong do you want added to your crispy pork.
So if you are looking for a place in the Metro to satisfy your home-cooked Filipino food cravings, do not hesitate to try Bulacan Lugaw Kitchen! It may be new in the block but it is sure to strike the innermost Pinoy hidden inside you.
