Originally from Spain and came from the word “Puchero” which means stewpot, this Filipino dish is made to make every family happy. It’s normally composed of beef chunks stewed with saba bananas (or plantains). The dish may also include potatoes or sweet potatoes, leeks, chickpeas, cabbage and tomato sauce and others. While it originated in another country, this dish has been well loved by the Filipinos thus various versions has also been created.

Pochero can be of Pork, Beef or Chicken variant. In this recipe video, we will walk you through in cooking a delicious and creamy Chicken Pochero.

Slice and chop garlic and onions to very small pieces.
Peel and slice saba bananas into half.
Peel and slice potatoes into medium size portions.
Slice and cut Baguio Beans into half.
Slice and cut the white cabbage.
Slice the tomatoes into smaller portions.
Sear the potatoes and bananas until it's medium brown.
Sear the chicken on its front and back for 10 minutes.
Saute's garlic then add onions and tomatoes.
Add the seared chicken and mix everything.
Add fish sauce then add ground pepper.
Add soy sauce and tomato paste and then mix.
Then add tomato sauce and water and let it boil for 20 minutes.
Then add potatoes, salt and brown sugar and mix.
Add the saba bananas, mix and let it boil for another 10 minutes.
Add the Pechay Baguio and green beans and let it boil for another 5 minutes.
Serve in a bowl and enjoy!
