Sinigang is a popular Filipino dish not only among Filipinos, but also with other nationalities. At first, though, tourists get weirded out with its distinct yet delicious flavor profile as Sinigang’s trademark is actually its sour and savory tasting soup.

Its sourness is often associated with tamarind, but surely, other fruits and leaves can also be used as a souring agent such as kamias and calamnsi. Indeed, Sinigang is a favorite of many as it also goes well with steamed white rice. Besides that, this dish is actually great for sharing too! Its soup can already be a viand, if you know what we mean. Every sip of it bring so much warmth and comfort, especially on cold rainy nights or when you are missing home.

What’s even better is that Sinigang actually has a lot of variants. Its protein can be switched up from time to time, so yes, there are a lot of ways for you to enjoy this Filipino classic yummy and we actually have four of that for you.

Let’s start with the most common one, the Pork Sinigang. Pork is a protein very much accessible here in the Metro so Pork Sinigang is actually a go-to of ours. Another one is Beef Sinigang; this one we usually go for when we want something extra than pork. We feel like Beef Sinigang just has that extra special element to it and so we go for this when we feel like we need some extra pampering.

Aside from those meats, you can also cook Sinigang with some fresh catches from the sea. Sinigang na Hipon is actually a favorite of ours as this one uses succulent shrimps as its main ingredient and you guys know how much we love shrimp, right? Meanwhile, Sinigang na Lapu-Lapu is certainly a Sinigang version that is usually served on a special day since grouper fish is not that accessible here in the Metro, plus is actually a bit pricey for an everyday dish.

Overall, Sinigang is undeniably a versatile dish that could be made with an array of main ingredients, just like what we have said earlier. Positively, a lot of people are more than satisfied when there is Sinigang on the table, and we are one of those people. We love Sinigang so much, obviously! How about you, what’s your favorite version of Sinigang?
