The Teachers Village in Quezon City has recently been popular because of different type of restaurants emerging. But you’ll be quite surprise that beyond those series of big and known restaurants, a new and quaint one can challenge them up when it comes to serving great and unpredictable dishes.
Located in the heart of Teachers Village, Quezon City and still on their soft opening, Bistro Kalzada proves to be more than the new restaurant in town. They aim to make their version of “Tasting Menu” be known and appreciated by the Filipino market.
Commonly known in French as Menu Degustation, this menu may be offered to provide a sample of a type of cuisine, or house specialties or even to take advantage of fresh seasonal ingredients that are readily available for the time being. Instead of just typically ordering one or two dishes for a meal, a customer is presented with an array of courses (from 4, 5,6 courses), and these are served in smaller plates, compare to the typical full-sized meal. So you have a sampling of the expertise of a chef, be it his specialty on certain cuisines, techniques, or what is readily available and fresh in the market.
Owned and personally managed by a couple whose dedication and hard work for their restaurant is incomparable. Irish and Mark poured out their heart and soul building Bistro Kalzada.
So while Mark is busy preparing the 6-course degustation menu, Irish happily chatted with us, sharing a little bit of themselves and how they are able to managed the resto on their own while raising their cute kid and adorable kid.
So we started with one of our favorite Mexican dish – Crispy Tortilla & Salsas. Their take on this known appetizer is simply mouth-watering. Because of the peaches, palm fruit, mozzarella cheese, Parmesan and their brown sauce which they made out of pepsi and siling labuyo, thus, making the dish so flavorful.
We then tried their Beef and Beans Soup. Composed of shredded beef, red beans, cilantro and beef bones. It was one appetizing soup that we really enjoyed.
Next up, was their Taco de Carnita. Made with pork, corn tortilla, cilantro, tomatoes, palm and peaches. The soft and tasty taco combined with all the given toppings produced such a delectable Mexican dish that we finished off within a few minutes.
Then we tried their Sopes y Chorizo De Italiano. If you like beans paired with pork and soft tacos, you will surely love this dish created by Mark.
Last on the mains but definitely one of the most appetizing dish that they served was the Argentinian Pesto. Served with Peruvian Chicken, Aji Verde and Chimichurri Rice. We love how Mark created this dish because of its pesto taste complemented with their delicious Peruvian chicken.
Finally, we get the chance to taste their own version of this famous dessert – Churros. And we absolutely loved it. I, for one, volunteered to empty the plate, that’s how much I enjoyed it.
Bistro Kalzada is highly recommended for those who wants to explore and be surprised of the dish that they will be eating. If you love being surprised, this is the place to be. You will get to enjoy great food with their tasting menu at a reasonable price.
